Jean-Luc Kouassi, PhD
Jean-Luc Kouassi is an Agroforestry – Fire Ecology – GIS expert specialized in the designing and implementation of climate change mitigation programs. Jean-Luc is a graduate of the Felix Houphouet-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute of Yamoussoukro, with a PhD in Agricultural Sciences and Rural Engineering (2019) and an Engineering degree in Forestry (2014).
He has 8 years of professional experience, including 5 years at the Ministry of Water and Forests as Forest Engineer and 3 years at the World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) as Junior Scientist in Agroforestry, where he worked on development projects with high ecological impact (Vision for Change, Initiative for Sustainable Landscape, Hana Corridor, etc.). Experienced engineer in the fields of forestry and agroforestry (especially cocoa agroforestry), ecosystem management and sustainable agriculture, agricultural training and education, GIS and geo-spatial data applications, with a long time experience in Africa. At ICRAF, he led the agroforestry component and contributed to agroforestry research for the improvement of the environment (insertion of shade trees in farmer plots, association of trees and cocoa trees tests), and participated in several deforestation monitoring studies in Côte d'Ivoire. He oversaw field activities as part of the Public-Private BMZ project led by ICRAF in western Côte d'Ivoire to conserve and restore biodiversity along the Hana River. Currently Research Officer at the Ministry of Water and Forests, he contributed to the designing and drafting of the Strategy for Forest Preservation, Rehabilitation and Extension, several agroforestry projects and initiatives.
He is specialized in geomatics, GIS and data management while having developed a particular sensitivity for the fields of environment, multifunctional landscape ecology and agroforestry in general.
He is passionate about development initiatives in the field of forestry and the environment and empowering communities. He is the President/CEO of the NGO African Global Impact Raiser (AGIR) and President of the EIC Nawa Investment Club.
He is the author and co-author of several scientific articles and conference papers on the impact of climate change on wildfires, the management of shade trees in cocoa farms and deforestation in Côte d'Ivoire.
